Frequently Asked Questions

Player Cards

Will our team logo be used?

A. For a team logo to appear on player cards, a ranking member of the club must complete a logo release form. As long as this form is completed before player card production, the team logo will appear on the card.

Can I provide a photo?

A. Player card photos can be provided by a 3rd party, however, a release will need to be signed giving Grotto Photo Company the rights to print and sell the player cards using the photo provided. These requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure quality.

Can I change player information?

A. We will send you a proof of your player's card before it goes to press. During the round to review the information, you can change it at no additional charge.

Equipment and Logistics

What equipment do you shoot with?

A. Our main camera body is a Nikon Z9, using an Z-Mount 4.5/24-70mm, 2.8/70-200mm, or 4.5/100-400mm.

When will we get our photos?

A. Your will receive an online gallery link with all your photos within maximum of 4 weeks (sometimes less depending on the schedule). You can download all the high resolution photos from the gallery.

How many pictures will we receive?

A. This varies depending on the purpose of the shoot. For team coverages, we average shooting 1500-2000 photos per game, and about 10% are worth posting. We always choose quality over quantity. For individuals, we always appreciate any direction for the purpose of the shoot. For example, if you're looking for a large action picture to hang in your basement, we'll position ourselves in the rink to get that perfect shot.

What's your secret?

A. Sports photography has three factors: light, speed of the camera shutter, and taking pictures in the right spot at the right time. Our equipment is top-of-the-line to handle the first two factors; our experience enables us to handle the third. For hockey, look for five things in a photo: two eyes, name, number, and the puck.

Will you host all our other pictures?

A. Yes, we are happy to host 3rd party pictures on their password protected gallery for a flat fee. Contact us for more information.

Shooting Sites

How far do you travel?

A. We are based out of Wheaton, IL. As long as our schedule allows, we will travel anywhere in the United States.

What are rinks you won't shoot in?

A. We'll shoot almost any rink, however, some rinks are limiting because of the condition of the glass, inconsistent or mixed lighting, or angle opportunities. When we talk, we'll work out the best place.
